El Colorado has a very rich flora, living together with the vineyards different species of wild trees and bushes. It is one of the most ancient viticultural regions of Uruguay. The way to the winery from Road 5, which crosses the country from south to north, starts on the crossroad with Road 48. On this road we find the “Escuela de Vitivinicultura”, and from that point on we start seeing the vineyards on the left and right side of the road. It is a lively region, it has a small church and also a cultural and sports center. From this point of road 48, it starts the way called rdl which leads us to the winery, which is beside El Colorado creek.

CLIMATE: The climate is temperate, warm, and relatively humid, which favors the production of age-worthy wines. During the day and night there is a large temperature range, promoting balanced ripening of the grapes.

MARITIME INFLUENCE: The winery’s vineyards are constantly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Sea breezes moderate temperatures, especially during the summer season, allowing us to obtain fresh, aromatic wines with very good natural acidity.

SOILS: The soils have a clear “vocation for viticulture” and are mainly vertisols, with a high clay content and significant limestone presence. The soils are well-drained and very biologically active.

FLORA AND FAUNA: The environment has very rich native flora. Different species of wild trees and shrubs coexist in the vineyards, making an important contribution to the ecosystem’s genetic biodiversity.

THE VINEYARDS OF EL COLORADO ARE LOCATED IN THE PROTECTED AREA OF THE SANTA LUCÍA WETLANDS.
