A story of tradition, innovation, and family passion since the early 20th century
In the early 20th century, the De Lucca and Galerato families arrived in Uruguay from Italy. Before World War II, they began cultivating vines in the area of El Colorado, one of Uruguay’s oldest wine-producing regions, located in the department of Canelones. This area is characterized by its calcareous and clay soils and its maritime influence. There, they started producing wine on a small scale for their own consumption and local sale within the community.
In 1945, the commercial production and sale of wines began, reaching significant growth by 1950. Through the family’s constant work and forward-looking vision, the De Lucca family developed fine wine production that, by the 1960s, was distributed throughout the country.
In 1984, during Uruguay’s vineyard reconversion period, Reinaldo De Lucca, the company’s current director, became a pioneer in implementing the integrated production system in viticulture, leading this transformation process nationwide.
Today, the winery is led by the third and fourth generations of winemakers, committed to creating wines with their own unique identity.
